4th of July activities Abound

MAAG members have two opportunities for fun this coming Saturday, July 4th. The first is a fly-in pancake breakfast hosted by the Don and Janet Yoder at their hangar. It is from 8:00 to 10:00 AM at Yoder Airpark (SN61). The address is 1842 Cub Lane Circle, Garden Plain, KS.

The second event is the EAA Chapter 88 Fly-In at Newton (EWK). They are doing breakfast from 7:30 to 10:30 and lunch from 11:30 to 2:00. There are airplane static displays, judging, Young Eagle rides, and flight performance events. The Corvette club will also be there. There will be a banquet in the evening with noted aviation photographer Paul Bowen as the keynote speaker.

So, breakfast with the Yoders, lunch in Newton. A flying day for sure.

July Meeting of MAAG

Mark your calenders now for Sunday, July 19 at Steve and Carol Quick's hangar at Rucker Field (SN34). The meeting is planned for later in the day than usual so the front of the hangar will be in the shade and we can avoid some of the heat. We will eat at 5:00 PM, leaving plenty of time for folks to fly home before dark. Steve says folks are welcome to come early and enjoy a day of flying at Rucker.

Please plan to bring a side dish or desert. As always, guests are welcome.

Rucker Field is about 3 miles north of Clearwater. It is a quarter mile east of 135th on 63rd Street South.

Happy Birthday Gus!

Members of MAAG, family, and friends gathered today at Wiebe Airfield near Halstead, Kansas to celebrate the 22nd anniversary of Gus Wiebe's 65th birthday. We'll let you do the math.

It was a stormy start to the day with much of the area picking up a few inches of rain this morning, and more thunderstorms looming in the late afternoon. However, during the middle of the day the sun was out on Wiebe Field and over 100 folks gathered to celebrate. No airplanes flew in, though, due to the weather. Shown here is the birthday boy himself and a great granddaughter enjoying a snack together before the main feast begins. Can you tell it is pretty hot in Kansas today?

Mark Wiebe smoked many pounds of pork and beef. Guests all brought side dishes or deserts. It was all plentiful and tasty!

Great Entertainment

The Gough family played for Gus' birthday celebration. Several of the band members are related to Gus. Their selection of mostly country music entertained the crowd and had then tapping their toes.

The dog is named Cookie and is making a comment how how great the food was! Nice hat, too!
