MAAG Visits Kansas Aviation Museum
Walt and Carol House hosted today's MAAG event at the Kansas Aviation Museum in Wichita. About 40 folks showed up for the chili feed. After a short business meeting, Walt (who is the curator) led a back stage tour of the museum.
This beautiful art deco building was the orginal air terminal for Wichita and houses some real aviation treasures. Walt mentioned Spirit Aerosystems has recently donated about 15 acres on the north side of the museum which includes 3 buildings. This will allow the shop / restoration activity to move into those buildings freeing up more display space in the museum.

This picture and the next sequence are for a 1931
Stearman Model 4D, whcih was owned by Texaco,
number 14. This is a wood mold for the wheel pant made
by Gary Sibley (left). They then made a splash of it
and then a fiberglass wheel pant half. The mold is a work of art!
This is the two halves of the wheel pant joined
together. The round disk is a template of the tire size!

Some of the upper wing panels for Texaco 14. Covered in cotton,
one panel is finshed with rib stiching and the other panel awaits.

A picture of what the final product will look like. This is one
of the models in the collector series of Texaco airplane banks.
It is pretty neat to know the original, full scale version is in Wichita!
