April MAAG Meeting a Windy Experience

The MAAG visited the Shields home/hangar in Stearman Estates at the Benton, Kansas airport today for its monthly gathering.  Many had stories to tell after tornadoes roared through the area last night.  The only significant damage noted was at the Kansas Aviation Museum where the roof over the control tower was severely damaged, and some airplanes tied down outside with 1/2 inch steel cables either moved around or in some cases were flipped over.

After a day of weather watching and hunkering down in basements yesterday, everyone was ready to get out and about.  Over 60 people attended, including many guests.  We all enjoyed fried chicken and other tasty side dishes and deserts.

John Kliewer was the only person to brave the strong and gusty winds and fly in, arriving in style in his 1946 Cessna 120.  Here is a link to a video John shot as he landed and then parked.  Pretty cool stuff!
